More student progress – Meet Maureen of Hideaway Blog!
October 17th, 2012 by Melissa

Hi ya everyone! Today, we want to continue showing off our student projects! On Wednesday’s this month we will show you how our students excel after working our class and practicing with our lessons!

When you enter the Basic Classroom here at Created from Color you are asked to color any image without any instruction. Kristy and I want to see your style and see where you are starting when you come into the course. This helps us evaluate where you are and help you on an individual basis. Let me introduce you to Maureen of Hideaway. You can see in Maureen’s before and after below that her first image was wonderful and that her color choices where seriously beautiful. After the class, Maureen recolored the image and check out the difference!!! Wow, the contrast is beautiful enough, but check out how her skin came to life!  The lips and the cute little nose.  The hair looks truly wonderful too!

Maureen started with a number of fabulous techniques already, and has an eye for vibrant fun colors. However, you can see that after the class she really created an with life.  Somehow, the whole image looks warm and welcoming.  We’d love to do that for you as well. Kristy and I also asked Maureen a few questions concerning the course and here are her answers:

Maureen, what made you decide to take an online Copic Class? Have you taken one before?
“I had been seeing so many really cool Copic-colored projects on the blogs I followed.   I knew I did a passable job but also knew I had A LOT to learn.  The Copic certification classes weren’t really an option due to the travel and typical time frames. but I had decided to take some kind of art class to learn about shading and such.  The next day I saw the blog post about this basic class and decided to take it after looking at how gorgeous the instructors colored.  I had not taken any online classes like this before but decided to jump in with both feet!”

What part/lesson helped you the most?
“Truly the videos were the best.  I could see what they were doing and that helped cement my understanding.  I also could watch them over and over (which I did in a few cases) to really get it.  On a couple of lessons I even colored right with my computer and paused the video while I did each part.  It was a great way to learn.

How did you feel about your coloring before the class and now that you’ve completed the class?
“I thought I did OK but I was really intimidated by all but the simplest things.  I didn’t have a great concept of light sourcing especially or how to figure out where highlights and shadows were.  Since taking the class I’ve tackled some pretty intense images and have been really happy with the outcome.  The intricacies don’t intimidate me anymore!”

What was your favorite part?
“Hair and skin most definitely!  I did not have near the contrast or highlights before class.  Now I can make hair that even looks shiny with the right amount of white space and highlight.  I still have to pay attention when I’m doing it but it is getting easier and easier.”

Did you feel that having the feedback both in the Class gallery and forum was helpful?

“I skimmed the forum to see what questions and answers were given, but I typically looked in the gallery.  I’d check comments on mine as well as on others pictures because I could learn from the comments made of the other class members work as well.”

Thanks Maureen for talking to us and allowing us to share your amazing progress. Please stop by Maureen’s blog - Hideaway for more stunning projects!  Here’s a beautiful creation she recently made using a beautiful Saturated Canary image!
